Russ Jr's 1st Sunday with GOd is Father's Day!

Tim Russert was an Olympianian of Life and Champion Gold Medalist of Fatherhood.  It is obvious that the meaning of Life for Tim Russert centered around Fatherhood.  There is Big Russ and Russert was Little Russ!  Russ Jr was Big because he loved his Father and still listened and learned from him even though he was a Moderator of Presidents, Senators, Celebrities and World Leaders. Statemans from all walks of life were his subjects on Meet the Press and like a bullfighter in the ring he gracefully piloted  them with his elegant questioning.

Little Russ was a wonderful Father to his son Luke and a surrogate father to the Boys and Girls Club of America.  Tim Russert Jr., because you loved your Dad, Big Russ, a hard working trunk driver and garbage man and followed his pearls of wisdom you became a Man and a Great Father.   We will miss that Leprechaun Luck of the Irish American What a Country kind of optimism you embodied....that joie de vie.....exuberance of life......joy of living and of Politics....I and millions of Americans will miss you on Sunday Mornings because even though it is Sundays it is no longer Meet the Press because you are not on TV anymore.

Little Russ you are an Original. Irreplaceable and will be MISSED!

Luke grills Big Russ and Russ Jr.

Tim Russert was a board member of the Greater Washington Boys and Girls Club of America's Promise Alliance for Youth and gave this organization 100's of thousands of dollars from the proceeds he made for his loving tribute written to his Father, Big Russ and Me.  Tim was such a great Father to not only his son Luke but to all these adopted boys and girls that in 1995, the National Father's Day Committee named Russert "Father of the Year," and Parents magazine honored him as "Dream Dad" in 1998. In 2001 the National Fatherhood Initiative gave him another "Father of the Year" nod.

Our Father in Heaven brought you into the Joy of his Love on the Good Friday to Father's Day because it was his will and our Lives belong to him....Well Done Good and Faithful Servant, like St. Paul in (2 Tim. 4:7-8):
("YOU, Tim Russert") I have fought the good fight (agone); I have completed the course (dromos); I have kept the faith. What remains is for me to be awarded the crown (stephanos) of righteousness, which the Lord will convey to me on that day, being a righteous judge; and not only will he give it to me, but also to all of those who love his manifestation. Verse 11:  Only Luke is with me.....

Timothy John Russert, Jr on Father's Day I am reminded of a quote from Douglas Mallock:

  • If you cannot be a pine on the top of the hill
Be a scrub in the valley - but be
The best little scrub by the side of the hill,
Be a bush if you can't be a tree

  • If you cannot be a highway just be a trail
    If you cannot be the sun be a star;

It is not by size that you win or fail -
Be the best of whatever you are.

Indeed you were a Wonderful Person, a Great Son, a Great Dad, a Great Journalist and a superb Moderator for MEET the Press indeed you were an Olympic Champion in the Race of Life which you ran with such Zest and I'm sure made St. Paul so proud of as you Raced with the zeal that he Raced with and did in his Letter to Timothy.  Life is a Race written of often in not only the Epistle of Timothy his others Epistles as well

Remember the words of Plato

  • No one knows whether death, which men in their fear apprehend to be the greatest evil, may not be the greatest GOOD!

I think it is true for you Tim, but nonetheless you will be sorely missed!  Fitting that your First Sunday in Heaven is Father's Day on Earth!  "If it is Sundays it" will no longer be "Meet the Press"...

Happy Father's Day Tim Russert.......
