Bishop Slattery Issues Response to Pelosi’s Controversial Abortion Comments
8/29/2008 - EOC Staff
I wish to join with the chorus of bishops, plus the many elected officials and citizens of good-will across the country who have reacted with astonished outrage to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s comments last Sunday in an interview with Tom Brokaw. In these confusing and scandalous assertions, Madame Speaker alleged that the Catholic Church’s position on the morality of abortion has changed through the centuries. This is false.
Beginning in the first century and in every epoch since, the Church has taught the sanctity of life in a consistent and unambiguous manner. In our own generation, the Catechism of the Catholic Church states it with succinct precision: “Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception … Direct abortion, that is, an abortion willed either as an end or as a means to an end is always gravely contrary to God’s moral law.”?(Catechism, 2270-2271)
Mrs. Pelosi claims to be an ‘ardent, practicing Catholic’ who has ‘studied (the issue) for a long time,’ but in presuming to articulate the Church’s teaching, the Speaker of the House has seriously misrepresented the history and nature of the Church’s moral stance. ?Perhaps her intention was to justify her long-standing position as a ‘pro-abortion’ politician by claiming a non-existent ambiguity in the moral teaching of the Church. Perhaps her desire was to convince Catholics that the unjust taking of the life of an unborn child can be justified as long as it is handled “respectfully.”

(Gov. Palin behind the GUN)

Here is a prophetic post from Sunday, July 1, 2007
If you don't like excessive government spending, then you should love the idea of Sarah Palin as your next Vice President. Why do I say this? Well, on Friday, she used her line-item veto pen to shave nearly a quarter of a billion dollars off of the $1.8 billion capital budget passed by the state legislature. (Click here for a video report from KTUU.)
Yes, you read that correctly...a grand total $231,000,000 of big government spending was sent swirling down the proverbial toilet. If you want to know exactly what that looks like, here's a PDF detailing the cuts...it's 19 pages long! The part I like is the "veto reason" column, where a large number of the cuts are marked "not a state responsibility". If you are a fiscal conservative or libertarian, that way of looking at spending should excite you (as it does me).

Before I get to the meat of today's column, I 'd like to thank columnist Don
Surber of the Charleston (WV) Daily Mail for
his endorsement of Sarah Palin for VP. To borrow a phrase from Sean
Hannity...Mr.
Surber, you're a great American.

I've said in the past that Sarah Palin would be the best VP for any GOP presidential nominee, and I think it's time that I put my money where my mouth is and prove it to you. I've had this post planned for a long-time, but a lot of my blogging has been focused on the growth of our movement. Tonight, I'm going to take the time to examine each top-tier presidential candidate (Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, McCain, Huckabee) and why Sarah Palin is the perfect running mate for each of them. By necessity, I will deal bluntly with the shortcomings of each candidate, because those are the holes that a VP needs to fill. No disrespect is meant. So without further ado (and in alphabetical order)...
Palin would never justify the abortion of a Baby who is God's most precious Creation even if modern day science via amniocentesis & genetic testing indicates her baby has an extra 21st chromosome.....Pelosi uses Science challenged 4th century St. Augustine who wrestled with the penalty for Abortion by a women before "animation or ensoulation" of the child took place vs that which occurred later in the pregnancy. This was the rationalization she used with Brokaw to say the following:
- "The point is, is that it shouldn't have an impact on a woman’s right to choose.....And so I don’t think anybody can tell you when life begins, human life begins."
Sarah Palin like St. Augustine knew it was a child and when Sarah Palin gave birth said
- "Trig is beautiful and already adored by us. We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives."
- Pelosi-Obama Democrats abort 90% of Trisomy 21(Downs Syndrome) babies.
The Pelosi effect has electrified the Hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church with 16 Bishops chastising her publicly....Heretofore little known outside of Alaska Sarah Palin has electrified the GOP Base and especially the Pro-Life Christians!
What a Gift McCain has given to our Nation in this Incredible Woman from the Yukon!
